About

The Struggling Games Developer documents the trials, tribulations, struggles, defeats, victories and life of Extrakun, an individual seeking to create games – be it pen and paper role-paying, board games, text-based, MUD, MMOs, card games…well, the list goes on. This blog is where you willl find my explorations, attempts and rants.

Of course, if I am just ranting and musing, this is just a waste of cyber-bandwidth. Hopefully as I document game engines, reviews of games, bugs I have encountered into, and share how I managed to get something work, some would find those information helpful.

This is a more ‘personal blog’. My blog where I post all the good stuff and ‘for the public eyes material’ is GamesTopica.Net

Great stuff, all of it. I’ve been working on an entire gameworld since around 1977, when I first played something like D&D with a friend. Shortly thereafter, in college, I hooked up with some T&Ters, including the (now) well-published Michael Stackpole. I’m now playing with my son, age 16, who is calling me out on a lot of the game mechanics. :) We’ve got a few different games running in different parts of my world, but don’t seem to be finding a lot of time to play recently. I’ve been adding some stuff to one of the adventures to make it a bit more lively/interesting/even (his chars are up against an ancient evil cult that is partially responsible for the recent emergence of a giant island (full of baddies), they’re accompanied by a hot female scout who is trying to save her own rep by rescuing her young cousin who has been kidnapped by the cult, they’re being followed/watched by a high level NPC who just bailed them out after an unwise shoplifting attempt went bad in a nearby town/wants an ancient evil spell book they’ve found/is trying to learn more about the cult to help combat the threats from the island, they have no healing to speak of, but have crossed paths several times with a local herbalist/cleric, and are in a rough mountainous/swampy are where a lot of very strange things roam about, esp. at night.), so please borrow any of these ideas in exchange for my borrowing yours.. :)
